This Turda Salt Mine day trip takes us on a fascinating journey through two of Transylvania’s most impressive sites — the spectacular Turda Salt Mine and the historic city of Alba Iulia.
We begin with a visit at the Turda Salt Mine, a true underground wonder carved deep into the earth. This place tells the fascinating story of mining across centuries. It will impress you with its dramatic chambers and futuristic design.
Consequently, it became famous not only for its striking visuals but also for its natural health benefits. According to doctors, the salt-rich air offers a breath of wellness.
Later on, in the afternoon, we explore Alba Iulia, a city with deep symbolic meaning. Generally, Romanians know it as the place where the Great Union of 1918 was declared. Undoubtedly, we’ll take a stroll through the Vauban citadel, a masterpiece of 18th-century military architecture, and explore its rich cultural and religious landmarks.
I always like to visit the Catholic Cathedral, the grand Orthodox Coronation Church, and the historic Union Hall, where Transylvania’s unification with Romania was officially proclaimed.
