Step into a storybook setting as you explore Biertan, the fairy tale village nestled in the heart of Transylvania. It is, definitely, home to one of the most impressive UNESCO World Heritage fortified churches. One of the best-preserved Saxon villages in the region, Biertan is the perfect starting point for a day that blends hiking, heritage, and authentic countryside charm.
Our itinerary begins with a guided visit of the UNESCO fortified church, followed by a scenic hike on the Via Transilvanica trail. crossing rolling hills, peaceful pastures, and quiet oak and birch forests. The landscape offers idyllic countryside views, rich biodiversity, and even the chance for wildlife watching along the way.
Afterwards, we arrive in Copșa Mare, another beautifully restored Saxon village. Here, we visit the fortified church and climb the hill to the iconic pine tree viewpoint, offering one of the best panoramic views in the region. After a well-deserved break, we return to Biertan on a different trail, completing a relaxing and rewarding circular route.
