This Sibiu countryside day trip takes you through traditional Saxon villages, fortified churches and authentic rural landscapes at the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains.
This relaxed day trip invites you to explore the countryside area around Sibiu, filled with charm, history, and authenticity. We start with a visit to the lovely restored fortified church in Cisnădie, a fine example of Saxon heritage and local architecture. Next, we reach the hilltop Cisnădioara Fortress, one of the oldest constructions in Transylvania, offering a panoramic view over the village and surrounding hills.
Our journey continues in Rășinari, a Romanian village, recently declared World’s Best Tourism Village (2023). Here we take a relaxing walk through narrow streets or, for the more active, we can enjoy a short hike on the hill above the village.
We end the day in Sibiel, a peaceful village nestled at the bottom of the mountains. A gentle walk along the Apple Trail takes us through the hillside with lovely views. We’ll also visit the Icon Glass Museum, a place that beautifully preserves rural spirituality and folk art. If desired, we can enjoy a delicious local lunch with a family of artisans, offering traditional dishes, stories, and warm hospitality — a true taste of Transylvania.
