Our Corvini castle day trip will make us step into the pages of Transylvania’s rich history. From the dark allure of a medieval Gothic castle to the elegant Baroque citadel, you’ll explore two famous landmarks in Romania.
Our first stop is the Corvin (Hunyadi) Castle, certainly one of the most impressive and best-preserved medieval castles in Europe. Hence, a masterpiece of Gothic and Renaissance architecture. Consequently, the fairytale fortress has served as a film set for movies like The Nun, Dragonheart, or Ghost Rider.
Beyond its impressive restoration, the castle contrasts with the grey, decaying communist buildings of Hunedoara. Such an image creates an intersection of two worlds — the romantic past and the industrial present.
In the afternoon, we head to Alba Iulia, a city like a book with many chapters: from ancient Dacian and Roman roots, through medieval sieges and Habsburg splendor, till the modern symbol of Romanian unity. Definitely, we’ll visit the massive Vauban-style fortress, admire Baroque architecture, and explore the old Catholic and Orthodox cathedrals.
