Back from FITUR Madrid 2026: New Travel Trends & Global Connections

Last week, I had the pleasure of participating in the International Tourism Fair of Madrid (FITUR) — one of the world’s leading travel trade shows. It was my third time attending, and once again, the experience was enriching, energizing, and filled with inspiration.

FITUR brings together travel professionals from all over the globe, offering a vibrant space for networking, collaboration, and discovering the latest trends shaping the future of tourism. I was proud to represent Romania, Transylvania, and of course, my beloved Sibiu, sharing its beauty, culture, and slow-travel charm with the world.

What’s new in travel: AI, sustainability, and personalisation

Beyond promoting my destination, I took time to explore what’s new in the tourism industry. Travel is evolving rapidly, adapting to economic, social, and political shifts — but most notably, to technology and AI innovations that are redefining how we plan, experience, and remember our journeys.

Sustainability, mindful tourism, and meaningful connections are increasingly in demand. Visitors are no longer just ticking landmarks off their list — they’re seeking authentic, immersive experiences. Exactly the kind of slow, local, nature-connected travel that Transylvania Essence Journeys is all about.

Evenings in Madrid: tapas, laughter and inspiration

Outside the exhibition halls, I enjoyed a few peaceful walks through Madrid’s lively streets, and shared long, warm dinners with fellow tourism professionals. Tapas, margaritas, and storytelling — the perfect recipe after a full day of meetings and presentations.

Madrid is elegant and cosmopolitan, but if I’m being honest, my heart still beats faster for the charm of Seville and Granada. Still, the atmosphere was lovely and the energy contagious.

What I bring back

I returned home full of fresh ideas, new international contacts, and the desire to keep evolving my work. FITUR reminded me, once again, that tourism is not just about places — it’s about people, stories, and meaningful journeys.

I can’t wait to implement everything I’ve learned and to welcome more curious travelers to discover the essence of Transylvania with me.

See you next year, FITUR!
